Copyright and Publishing

Copyright

Copyright is a legal concept provided by the law to creators for their literary, musical, dramatic, artistic works and producers of cinematography and sound recordings, and technology and computer programs.

A work need not be published or available to the public in order to be protected. It is protected when its created.

Copyright law protects only expression of ideas. The copyright is the legal right that resides with owner of the work whether it is writing, art music or any creative form. To qualify for copyright the work must be original, i.e. must not be copied from any other place or public domain.

For literary works, the duration of copyright protection is from creator’s lifetime plus 70 years after death. For other type of works different time of lengths apply.
